How it works: Flaccid skin layers on the surface, which are usually also damaged by light, are removed by vaporization. What kind of narcosis is used?
Usually laser treatments are performed under local anaesthesia or in twilight sleep. A trained anaesthesiologist assesses your state of health immediately before the procedure and discusses the course of the anaesthesia with you. You will then be given a sedative. You are relaxed and insensitive to pain, but responsive. It may only happen that you feel a pulling or plucking sensation from time to time during the surgery. You will be monitored by the anaesthesiologist during the entire operation.

2 Clarifying the risks
In general, laser treatment is a very harmless treatment, which usually runs completely smoothly. Exceptions are temporary swellings and reddening after the operation, which are differently pronounced from patient to patient, but subside after a few days. In rare cases, these symptoms can last longer than a week. Milia – for example around the eye area -, dry skin or discoloration of the skin also occur occasionally. Scarring due to wound infection cannot be completely ruled out but is extremely rare. Depending on the patient’s health and lifestyle, risks, such as wound healing disorders, can be well assessed prior to surgery and thus individually prevented.
In addition, we ask you to sign a declaration of consent before the surgery, which is marked with your name and date of birth and in which the type of operation and all possible complications mentioned are recorded. Your signature will ensure that you have received the appropriate information and that you agree with the procedure while being aware of the risks.
3 The preparation & the treatment
Normally you do not need any special preparation. Depending on the extent of the planned treatment, you can resume your normal activities after a few days. However, we recommend that you keep your work and private activities to a minimum during the first week after the removal of the bags under your eyes. On the day immediately before the treatment and on the day of the treatment itself, it is advisable not to do anything. A rested patient is the best basis for an optimal result.
The treatment usually takes place in the rooms of the outpatient day clinic of the Iatros clinic in the center of Munich. It is carried out outpatiently.
Removing bags under the eyes – what should be considered?
Directly after the procedure
Directly after the treatment a mild stabbing pain or pulsation can occur in the treated areas. Sometimes slight swellings or small hematomas can arise which disappear usually within a few days. Potential redness usually vanishes within in the first 24 hours. In individual cases, especially in persons with a light skin, a redness can last one week.
Tiny crusts can arise above the incision spots which heal in a few days. A small bandage can be useful for the first 24 hours to fixate the preparation and to diminish the facial expressions. In case of the use of fat tissue for the treatment the mentioned appearances such as swelling, redness, and small hematomas can also occur in the extraction spot.
Consider in the first weeks
You should avoid sun for several days and afterwards use good sun protection. If you chose a sedation you should not drive car after the procedure.

Can an eye bag removal be repeated?
Generally a removal of bags under the eyes can be repeated without problems after the end of the treatment time. Some patients consciously choose the possibility of repeated reworking at shorter intervals.
The costs
Such a procedure is an operation that usually serves to improve the external appearance. Therefore, the costs are usually not covered by health insurance companies.
We are happy to help your insurance company to show you the possible improvement in case of clear functional impairment. You can only count on the participation of your health insurance company if there is a functional disorder, which is very rarely the case.
