The desire for intimate surgery with reduction of the labia minora often focuses on a functional disorder. This can lead to entrapment, problems when riding a bicycle and when sitting. Due to the large excess of skin, fungal diseases and urinary tract infections, chafing and tearing of the thin mucous membranes can occur more frequently.
These problems can be safely remedied by surgical reduction of the inner and, if necessary, enlargement of the outer labia. In the foreground is a gentle technique that achieves a harmonious and coherent correction. The aesthetic unity of this sensitive region has to be considered and respected. Therefore, a reduction of the labia minora is often combined with an enlargement of the labia majora surrounding it.
The aim of the operation is to have the labia minora covered by the labia majora or to give the labia majora a youthful appearance by improving fullness.

Types of Treatment
Reduction of the labia minora and the clitoral mantle
The genital area should be considered as an aesthetic unit. With the gentle and safe technique of labia reduction, not only the inner labia but also the clitoral mantle is reduced, tightened and the excess skin is removed. The clitoris itself is not touched, but only the surrounding tissue. Scars are almost invisible after only a few weeks.
Enlargement of the labia majora
To enlarge the labia majora, naturally occurring materials such as hyaluronic acid, the body’s own regeneration factors (HYPPP) or own fat are used. Depending on the findings, these are injected into the labia majora during the procedure. If the labia minora are augmented with the patient’s own fat, the fat is first removed from a suitable place on the body (liposuction) and prepared. Since the own fat, the regeneration factors (HYPPP) and the hyaluronic acid are introduced through small incisions, hardly any scars are formed. Besides an improved aesthetic result, an increased sensation during sexual intercourse is very common after this procedure.
What can you expect from Intimate Surgery?
The aim of the surgery is to have the labia minora covered by the labia majora or to give the labia majora a youthful appearance by improving fullness. Immediately after the operation, a break/sexual leave as well as a particularly high degree of intimate hygiene is essential. Many of the treated patients report an increased pleasure feeling after the labia reduction. The functional problems can be completely eliminated in almost all cases.
Are there any risks?
In the hands of a specialist, intimate surgery is relatively low-risk. However, complications can never be completely ruled out and cannot be foreseen in individual cases. For example, the extent and duration of swelling and bruising that can be expected after each operation varies greatly from one individual to another. Infections of the wound area are very rare, but with appropriate treatment they do not necessarily worsen the result.
Wound healing disorders are equally rare, although factors that are discussed in detail in the discussion before the operation usually play a role, such as delayed healing in diabetics, smokers and patients with blood coagulation disorders. When injecting your own fat into the labia minora, there is a risk that not all fat cells will be connected to the blood circulation. In such a case, a correction is sometimes necessary. However, this is just as uncomplicated. If all recommendations are followed, healing is unproblematic.
Wound healing disorders are generally low in this region of the body. The risk of thromboses or embolisms is also minimal, as mobility is not restricted after the operation if only the upper arm is lifted. The seromas that occasionally form after removal of the wound drains can be punctured. The formation of “dog ears” (see above) is rare, occurs only occasionally with extensive surgical removal of excess skin and can also be corrected in this case on an outpatient basis. In general, an inconspicuous scar is formed. Only in the lower part towards the forearm is the scar occasionally somewhat widened or excessive, so that corrections may be necessary later.
Pre-existing conditions: In general, surgery is associated with a higher risk for patients with diabetes mellitus, lung, heart and circulatory diseases, as well as for patients with other pre-existing conditions such as allergies, rheumatic diseases or a tendency to infectious diseases and blood coagulation disorders. Obesity, cigarette smoking and taking the so-called contraceptive pill, but above all the combination of these factors, is also associated with an increased risk of thromboses and embolisms.
What kind of narcosis is used?
Depending on the extent of the procedure, intimate surgery is performed under local or general anaesthesia. With local anaesthesia, you will be given a sedative beforehand (either as a tablet or as an intravenous injection into the arm vein), which puts you into a kind of twilight sleep. You are thus awake, but relaxed and insensitive to pain.
The only thing that may happen during the operation is that you may occasionally feel a pulling, plucking or drilling in the area of the operation. In any case, but especially if a general anaesthetic is planned, you will be examined by an anaesthesiologist before the surgery to clarify your suitability for anaesthesia. Of course, the anaesthesiologist will also be present during the entire operation and will control the anaesthesia.
How does a treatment in the practice of Dr. von Isenburg & Dr. Neuhann-Lorenz work?
1 The personal counselling interview
Before every operation, we provide you with a comprehensive explanation. It can be helpful to write down some questions beforehand. Do not be afraid to ask anything that interests you. Also feel free to ask, by phone if necessary, at a later time or at another preliminary consultation appointment if any problems remain unresolved. The consent form is a document that records your name and date of birth, the type of surgery and any possible complications that have been addressed. Your signature ensures that you have received the appropriate information and agree to the operation with knowledge of the risks.
2 Clarifying the risks
In general, this is a minor surgical procedure that usually goes completely smoothly. Precisely influencing pre-existing conditions are therefore clarified in advance. In addition, we ask you to sign a consent form before the operation, which includes your name and date of birth, and in which the type of operation and all possible complications addressed are recorded. Your signature ensures that you have received the appropriate information and agree to the operation with knowledge of the risks.
3 The preparation & the treatment
If you decide to have intimate surgery, you should free yourself from all professional and private duties for about a week afterwards. Postoperative advice. It is advisable not to take on too much in the days immediately before the operation so that you can approach it in a mentally and physically rested state. If you have any questions or doubts in the time before the operation, please call your surgeon.
What should be considered after Genital surgery?
Directly after the surgery
Immediately after a labiaplasty or labia reduction it is advisable to cool the genital area. You should not undertake strenuous activities, not walk far and rest. Please note that you should not drive home by yourself. On the day after the procedure, the dressing will be changed in our practice. You will receive compresses and wound dressings for the following days.
Einschränkungen & Empfehlungen
You should take an antibiotic prescribed by us for a total of approx. 5 days. You will receive a prescription for a painkiller, which you should take accordingly. From the third day on you can take a shower again. Please use appropriate gentle care products for this. The stitches are self-dissolving and do not need to be removed. If itching occurs, you can apply a sterile wound ointment (e.g. Bepanthen) after consultation with us.
Can an intimate surgical procedure be repeated?
A renewed intimate surgical intervention is usually possible, but is rarely necessary. If you wish to correct a recent surgery, it is advisable to wait for the end effect of the first procedure (six months to a year) before a new corrective operation is performed.
The costs of Genital Surgery in Munich
Intimate surgery is surgery that is usually performed to improve the external appearance of the body. Therefore, the costs are usually not covered by health insurance companies. We are happy to help your insurance company to show you the possible improvement in case of a clear functional impairment. However, you should not put too much hope in the participation of the health insurance. Please understand, however, that doctors must reject any attempt to issue a medically unjustified certificate of a functional disorder in the presence of a purely cosmetic change for ethical reasons from the outset.
Where does the surgery take place?
Intimate surgical procedures are performed on an inpatient or outpatient basis, depending on the findings and in accordance with your wishes. In the case of outpatient surgery, you will have a post-operative rest period, but you will then be allowed to go home. Under no circumstances should you drive a car yourself.
