What is a transconjunctival blepharoplasty?
Our preferred transconjunctival blepharoplasty technique works tissue-conserving. The fat protrusions which make up the lachrymal sacs are transconjunctivally (meaning at the inner side of the lower eyelids) removed by a very small laser incision and if necessary translocated.
Afterwards, without scarring of the outer eyelid skin, we perform lifting of the flaccid muscles and skin through ablative and non-ablative fractionated laser treatment.

What kind of narcosis is used?
Mostly Eyelid Lifts are performed under local anaesthesia and twilight sleep, so that you sleep during the whole surgery. Additionally to the local anaesthesia you will receive a sedative which will put you in a twilight sleep. You will breathe on your own but be relaxed and insensitive to pain. An anaesthesiologist will examine you before the surgery to clarify your suitability for anaesthesia. The anaesthesiologist will be present during the whole surgery and will control the narcosis.

Special tip: Reduce your nicotine and alcohol consumption to a minimum after the surgery! Also you should avoid saunas or steam baths for several months! After the second week you will usually look recovered and relaxed again, so that most of the patients start working one week after the surgery again. If you wish you can cover possible marks with special camouflage-make-up.
Can an Eyelid Lift be repeated in Munich?
A second Eyelid Lift in Munich is usually possible after several years. The reason for that is a decrease of the effects of the first surgery. After the surgery you have to keep a resting phase. Afterwards you can go home immediately. Driving a car is not allowed 24 hours after the surgery – so you should have a ride or a taxi or public transport to go home.
For some patients it is useful to stay a few days in the clinic, especially if there are pre-existing conditions which require steady medical care. You should also plan to stay a few nights in the clinic if your home is more than 30km away or if you stay alone at home the first night after surgery.
